Objectives
Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most well-known post-impressionist artists, for whom color was the chief symbol of expression. He was primarily a self-taught artist and he started his career copying prints and studying drawing manuals with the belief that a great painter had to first master drawing. He created over 1,000 drawings, 150 watercolors, 10 graphic works, 9 lithographs and an etching, not to mention his 900+ paintings in his short career.

From 28 April to 9 July 2017, the National Gallery of Victoria will host a sweeping exhibition which will bring together works lent by leading international museums, including the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam and the Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo, presented within sections devoted to each of the four seasons.

Prior to visiting the exhibition, what better idea than becoming more familiar with Van Gogh, his life, his work and his vision? Let’s take a journey in his steps from The Netherlands to Belgium and Paris to Arles to see the homes and places he knew, discover the letters he wrote to his beloved brother Theo which provide insight to his life as well as his work, have an overview of how artists such as Paul Gauguin influenced his art and how his failing mental and physical health finally affected the end of his career.

Participants will be able to explore places that were the setting for many defining moment in this artist’s tumultuous life and his profound relationship with nature and the circle of life, whilst speaking French. A unique cultural workshop open to students from level B1.3 to level B1.7!
